2021 Coach Certification

Hi Everyone,

Apologies for the short notice...we have been getting briefed on the new process for registering for grassroots coaching courses with the theory component going completely online.

I will give some step by step instructions here and I will go over it with Kuvy Moodley (one of our summer students for this year) so that he can help with troubleshooting any issues that may arise.

First off there are two ways of registering:

1- The club will register their coaches and pay for the courses.

2- The coach will pay and the club will reimburse them.

If someone from the club can pay and get reimbursed from the club level, from experience that is usually easier on the coaches.

You will go to Canada Soccer Coach Education and Certification page by clicking on this link.  From here, you will see the 4 courses, Active Start (U4-U6), Fundamentals (U6-U9), Learn to Train (U9-U12) and Soccer 4 Life (U12 and above).  If you want to register a coach for Active Start, you will click in "Active Start" (in red letters).  This will take you to a shop where you can purchase an active start course.  If you only want one, keep the quantity at 1, if you have more than one coach that is taking that course, you can change the quantity to how many courses you need.

Once you have added courses to your cart, you will be taken to another page.  At this point, you will see two options: Are you purchasing this as an individual or on behalf of an organization.  Click - On behalf of an organization if you are doing so for your coaches.  This will open a text box where you will type in your clubs name (it should start to appear as you type).  Once you have done this step, there is a text box for special instructions, in this box you will put the first name, last name and email address for the person taking the course (if you purchase more than one course, list each person's information).

Once that step is done you can continue shopping if you are purchasing other courses and follow the same process.  When you have all of the courses for your club.  You can click checkout.  You will follow the process the same way you would with any online shopping.  Once you have paid you will get a confirmation with the access key for each coach that corresponds with the course they are taking.  You will send this information to the coach.

Once the coach has that information, they will go to SNS Grassroots Coaching Registration.  There is a little diagram and some text underneath it.  If the club has paid for the coaching course they will click on "CLICK HERE" for the statement Click HERE and use your personal code when creating an account.

They will then be directed to a registration page, they will enter the Access Key they received along with their name and email, the name of your club, Soccer Cape BReton for name of district, the age group they will be coaching and their phone number.  Once they have completed that information they will click Redeem Code Now.  Once this is complete they should receive via email their online theory coaching course.  Active Start and Fundamentals take at the most 1.5 hours and Learn to Train and Soccer for Life 2 hours.  The learning does not need to be completed in one sitting.

Once complete, this will take care of the Theory component.  We will also be offering on June 24-25th (next Thursday and Friday) from 5-9pm at The Cape Breton Health and Recreation Complex (CBU turf) the practical components of these courses.  The 24th will be for Active Start and Fundamentals and the 25th will be for Learn to Train and Soccer for Life.  We need a minimum of 10 coaches for each night (from all clubs).  So time is of the essence to get coaches registered and working on the theory component.  Unfortunately at this time we will not be able to offer this on the western side of the island but we are working on getting our own learning facilitators trained so we can do so in the future to make these more accessible to all clubs.

If you have any questions about registering your coaches please contact Kuvy Moodley at (902)564-1222 (he will be in the office the rest of this week from 9am-4pm) or myself at (902)371-6335.

Thank you all for your commitment to the game and working to make this a successful summer for our players and coaches.

All the best,

Wil

Want to Become a Coach?

Volunteer parent and non-parent coaches are always in demand!

Education

All SCB Coaches will receive Coach Education workshops free of charge (subject to conditions) for the level at which they are coaching.

The Active Start, Fundamentals, Learning To Train and Soccer For Life courses are designed to prepare coaches for working with players in a specific stage of development as outlined in the LTPD Model.  There are no pre-requisites to enter these “Community Stream” Workshops and contain no evaluation.

To coach at the “Tier 1” level it is preferred that individuals pursue training through higher level “Licensing Stream” Workshops beginning with the C-License.  Further details on the licensing stream can be found at https://www.soccerns.ca/coaches-2/overview/

The higher qualification a person has, the more likely they are to be appointed to coach a Select team.

Criminal Records Check

All coaches in the SCB system are required to complete and submit a Criminal Record Check Form each year before they will be appointed to coach a team.

Please note: This criminal record check letter must be taken in to the RCMP detachment in order to have a criminal record check completed for you.

Benefits for Coaches:

SCB will pay for coaching education, training or certification, with limitations and subject to future coaching commitment.

Soccer Cape Breton coaches will receive a stipend in March of each year, as compensation for their time and travel commitments throughout the program.

If coaches do not meet the requirements of the role, it may affect the amount of stipend they receive, and potentially their role with the program.

If the coach is required to travel outside of CBRM with the team he/she will receive compensations.

Coaches will also be supplied with an item of appropriate clothing for them to be easily recognised as a Soccer Cape Breton coach.
