TEAM CAPE BRETON U12 BOYS FACE SHOWCASE CHALLENGE
SOCCER CAPE BRETON'S U12 Team Cape Breton Boys are on home soil this weekend as they take part in the prestigious Soccer Nova Scotia ID Showcase which is being hosted at Ness Timmons Field.
Players nurtured at clubs from across the island have come through the Regional Training Centre program to be chosen for the island select squad and will face top opposition from throughout the HRM as they bid to win places in the Halifax Top 60 Camp in August.
After this event on home turf the boys will travel to a second showcase in Bridgewater in July before the Top 60 players in the province are invited to that special camp in Halifax. From there the group will be whittled down to decide the squad who will represent Team Nova Scotia in the Atlantic Championships in 2025.
Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain King said: "We are thrilled and proud that this year we will have Luka Church and Matthew Cormier representing the island in the Boys U13 Team Nova Scotia squad.
"They came through the same Team Cape Breton process that this year's squad now faces and we'd love to see some of this group follow in their footsteps.
"With Luka and Matthew they had a superb grounding at Whitney Pier SC before moving on to the Cape Breton FC Academy and this time we are also delighted to have kids from all over the island whether it be the Pier, North Sydney, the Sydney clubs, CBFC or Inverness in the case of Ben Swinkels.
"We aim to give opportunities to kids from all across Cape Breton through our Skill Centre and RTC programs. This group is young with a lot of 2013 players who will qualify for this event NEXT year also but we see great potential in them."
