THIS Thursday sees the new season’s launch of the CAPERS Elementary League - an initiative that sums up the strength of The Beautiful Game on the island.
Soccer Cape Breton and the CAPERS Academy works in partnership with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional Centre for Education (Active Healthy Living), the Cape Breton Health and Recreation Complex and the storied CBU CAPERS Varsity soccer franchise to deliver the tournament.
Jubilee Elementary School Vice-Principal Steve Ranni, the driving force behind helping get the project off the ground three years ago, has once again worked hard with the SCB technical team to structure the 2025 program.
The games will go ahead every Tuesday and Thursday from Thursday September 25 until Tuesday October 21 from 3.30pm-5.30pm at Ness Timmons Field with the opening schedule shown below:

Each game will be refereed by a member of the current CBU CAPERS Men’s Varsity squad and the program’s Head Coach Deano Morley - a USPORTS National title winner in 2017 and 2023 - said: “The CEL is in its third year now and it is another monumental implementation for the Soccer Cape Breton community player development pathway.
“The earlier players are exposed to the professional soccer facilities CBU offers, along with connection to the Varsity players, then the greater the chance of them falling in love with the game and seeing themselves as future Capers Academy players.
“We at CBU are passionate about local player development and we love seeing the interaction between our student athletes and local youth. What a great example of what brilliant and meaningful collaboration looks like!
“Children having the opportunity to run around, be active, learn team skills with their friends and experience the game of soccer at a first-class facility is crucial.
“This program exposes children to the game of soccer in a quality environment led by qualified and experienced student athletes who provide the perfect role models for these young players.”
